Paint Our Cover

In an effort to connect our readers to all things authentically local, we are featuring the paintings of six San Diego artists on our 2017 covers. It started with the January cover, an oil on canvas painted by Edible San Diego’s Managing Editor, Riley Davenport. Our March issue showcased a beautiful watercolor painted by Jane LaFazio, and our current May issue features the work of R.D. Riccoboni. Herb and Wood’s resident artist Johnny Lane shared his painting ‘Shape of a Grape’ on our July-August Cooks issue, and we are excited to unveil a winner from the first part of the contest on the September cover.

We are planning our final cover of the year for our Celebrations issue and will be accepting submissions from San Diego artists July 19 through August 30.

Paintings submitted should be relevant to the theme of the issue and in alignment with the mission of Edible San Diego.

Submitting your painting is easy:

• Follow @ediblesd on Instagram

• Post a quality image of your painting on Instagram between July 19-August 30, 2017

• Tag @ediblesd on the photo

• Provide a brief description of your artwork and include a hashtags #esdcelebrations #paintourcover #ediblesd

Criteria:

• Artist must reside in San Diego

• All artwork must be original

• Art must be made available without compensation

• Artwork themes should be relevant to the content of Edible San Diego, appropriate to the cover theme for the Beverages issue. Ideally, food and drink implied or included for the Beverages issue.

• Portrait format only.

• If your artwork is selected, in order for it to appear on the cover, you must be able to provide a file suitable for use in print - 9”x12” 300dpi - by our production deadline. No cell phone photos.

• Restricted content: All paintings must be suitable for viewing by readers of all ages.

• Submissions: Instagram photo contest. Artwork should be posted on Instagram, Edible San Diego must be tagged on the image, and trending hashtags must be indicated in the comments: #paintthecover #ediblebeverages #ediblesd

Terms:

• One entry per artist.

• By submitting your painting for consideration in the Paint the Cover Contest, artist agrees to allow Edible San Diego Magazine free digital use of the image with credits.

• Artist Contributors Agreement to be provided upon selection for terms of publication

• Selected artists will be contacted directly by September 5th and announced upon publication the last week of October 2017.

• Edible San Diego reserves the right to select cover art from outside the Paint Our Cover contest.
