Simply Local, Simply Delicious: Three-Ingredient Ham & Cheese Sandwiches

Celebrate local ingredients with this super simple, utterly indulgent sandwich. Get your ham from Da Le Ranch at the farmers market or from Cook Pigs Meat at Heart and Trotter. Pick up an amazing, artisan loaf from the farmers market or from Wayfarer Bread in La Jolla. And get really good cheese from a local monger like Venissimo.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: 2 Sandwich(es)
  • 4 slices artisan bread
  • 2 thick slices local ham off the bone
  • Grated cheddar, Gruyère cheese or Emmental, to taste

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 420F. 

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; place two slices of bread on the prepared sheet; top with a slice of ham each and sprinkle with cheese to cover. Top with another slice of bread and sprinkle evenly with more cheese. 

Bake in the preheated oven until lightly browned, about 8 minutes.

Serve immediately with a simple salad of fresh greens dressed with lemon and olive oil.
