Essentially a Mexican bloody mary, most people can agree that the original Michelada was simply lime juice, a dash of this and that, and a salted rim. But one of the best things about this drink is its adaptability. Start with a basic recipe and customize to taste with anything from a chamoy and tajin rim to a can of clamato or a shot of mezcal.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: 1 Cocktail
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
  • salt, for rim
  • 5 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 dashes hot sauce of your choice (Tabasco, Cholula or whatever's in your pantry)
  • 5 dashes Maggi sauce or soy sauce
  • 1 bottle Mexican beer

Instructions

Run a halved lime around the rim of a pint glass and plunge the rim into a dish of salt or seasonings until the rim is encrusted.

Fill the rimmed glass halfway with ice. Add the lime juice and condiments and top with as much beer as the glass will hold.

Add more beer as you sip and make room.
