Five Things You Can Do in SD County to Spice Up Your Relationship
It’s been 12 awesome years with my husband. Well, let’s be real, not all of those years were awesome. There were times when it was boring and stressful. But after a lot of trial and error, we’ve found a few tricks that help us get our groove back in no time flat.
Turn off the TV, and Tune in
After being hitched a long time, you might catch yourself treating your lover like a roommate. It’s okay, it happens. When you’re exhausted after a long day’s work, it can put a major damper on your flirting game. Plan distraction-free evenings a couple times a week.
Instead of watching TV after dinner, take a romantic stroll along the Mission Bay boardwalk. Instead of meeting at home, meet for happy hour drinks after the office. Skip making dinner one night and go to a new restaurant you’ve both been wanting to try. Better yet, go make out at your local theatre like when you were teenagers. Splurge on one of the swankier theatres in San Diego, like THE LOT in La Jolla and Point Loma.
Hold hands, steal kisses, and remember all the fun you had falling in love.
Take a Time Out
Seeing each other day in and day out can land us in a stale routine. By taking a mini break, even if it’s just a day off from one another, will give you a chance to miss one another. Spend a day visiting wineries in Ramona and Julian with friends, take a trip over the border to explore Baja, plan a spa weekend at Rancho Bernardo, or a golf overnighter at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. By the time you get back, you’ll feel refreshed and have a new appreciation for your honey.
Spice it Up
Has your bedroom routine become a little predictable? Change it up. Try getting romantic at an unexpected time of day or in a different part of the house. Do something out of the ordinary. And if you’re feeling extra frisky, make a date out of drinks in the Gaslamp and a visit to an adult shop, like Hustler Hollywood (this one in particularly is classy and not creepy). You might walk out with a new toy to try out or, at the very least, you and your partner will get a kick out of seeing what’s available.
Have Fun Solo
Some couples lose themselves in their relationships, but rather than making your bond stronger, it can just make things boring. Remember, your spouse chose you, not his or her own reflection! So, make time to get out and do something to feed your own interest, especially if it is an activity your partner doesn’t particularly enjoy.
Take an aerial yoga class at Trilogy or take a painting class at Expressive Arts. You’ll feel better and more energized, and that positivity will rub off on your partner. Plus it will give you something new to talk about over dinner.
Bring Your Sexy Back
If you feel great about yourself, then chances are you will be far more in the mood for amorous endeavors. Not feeling so hot? Then it might be hard (read: impossible) to get in the mood. Get your hair done in South Park at Salon on 30th (ask for Alyssa, she’ll make you feel like a million bucks!). Stop by Tippy Toes Nails and Spa for a mani-pedi. Buy a new bottle of perfume or cologne, get a massage, spend a half hour in the sauna, whatever makes you feel good about yourself. It’ll boost your self esteem and your spouse will be super into the confident, shined-up version of the person they fell in love with.
