Just 90 miles north of San Diego lies Glen Ivy Hot Springs, a lush 157-year-old oasis nestled in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. The orchards and palm trees surrounding the property shade the retreat and provide fresh seasonal fruit used throughout the Glen Ivy’s dining options.

With 19 pools, cabanas, fitness classes and spa treatments there’s more than enough reasons to spend the day here, and with their new twilight party series, good reason to stay late into the night.

Grab your bathing suit and flip-flops and head inland for the day.

8:00 AM

Start your 90 minute drive northeast from San Diego.

9:30 AM

Check-in and head to the Bath House where you’ll find complimentary lockers, an indoor pool, bright vanities, showers and steam rooms to start your visit right.

Towels are available throughout the grounds but if you’d like to have a robe during your visit bring one from home or rent one for the day ($15).

Keep your hands free by registering your credit card and getting a wrist band to make hassle-free purchases throughout the day.

10:00 AM

Stop by the GOCO Cafe for coffee and a pastry, before heading to the sauna. Built from woods and stones that impart unique scents and temperatures, they are a perfect way to start your relaxing day.

Cool off with a dip in the pool before joining a fitness class, like Aqua Fit or Yoga.

12:00 PM

Relax in the shade or sun poolside or head underground for a skin pampering treatment in The Grotto ($25, appointment required), great on your own or with friends, where you’ll be painted neck-to-toe with a warm aloe vera, coconut oil, eucalyptus and lavender masque. Let it all soak in and relax with tea, water and fruit before emerging from The Grotto with refreshed skin.

Head to Ivy Kitchen for lunch. Head Chef Micah Severeid serves up healthy, Mexi-Cali with a coastal twist, like fish tacos, flatbreads, and hearty seasonal salads. Grab a fresh juice, smoothie, or frozen yogurt from the thatched-roof Chill Zone before making your way to The Secret Garden where you can relax on the grass or meditate by water features in the shade of oak trees.

3:00 PM

Head to the Mineral Baths for a 15-minute soak in natural, sulfur-rich geothermal waters that are known to ease joint pain and condition the skin.

Lock in those minerals with a stop at Club Mud nearby where you can coat your whole body in California red clay. Dry off in the sun or heat cave before washing it away to reveal silky-smooth skin. Be sure to wear a darker-colored swimsuit to avoid staining.

Get your blood pumping with the Hot and Cold Plunge Pools for a hydrotherapy experience that delivers a blast of energy, boots blood flow and flushed out toxins. Start in the 102 F pool and then end with a quick dip in 55 F water and you’ll feel wide awake.

Slip into the Saline Pool filled with Epsom salts that are rich in magnesium and sulfates known to ease tight muscles, joints and inflammation in the body and you’ll be ready to wind down and get ready for the evening.

5:30 PM

Start the night at The Lounge 1860 and order a Double Mango Jalapeño Margarita or try the Hibiscus-Champagne cocktail spiked with cranberry juice.

Head to Ivy Kitchen for a dinner of Ahi Tuna crusted with rich pistachio and spicy wasabi pea, served with steamed rice, bok choy, and finished with a buttery ginger sauce.

During the summer you can enjoy Twilight Evenings at Glen Ivy Hot Springs for a unique experience under the stars. Featuring extended dining hours, nightly activities, musical guests and live DJs, spend the remainder of your time partying and absorbing all the chill vibes.

If you haven’t had enough soaking for one day, you can finish your day at Glen Ivy Hot Springs in the Lounge Pool where you can wade in the shallow end or grab a float and gaze up at the stars while grooving to tunes.

Take advantage of the steam rooms and showers in the Bath House, complete with complimentary toiletries, before heading back home to San Diego.
