Now Open: High-Concept Brunch Seven Days a Week at Morning Glory
A stylish, globally-inspired ode to all things brunch is now open in Little Italy, and Morning Glory, like any CH Projects venue, is worth checking out for the eye appeal alone.
The second story space designed by Paul Basile and BASILE Studio features a color palate of dusty rose and emerald green straight out of the ‘80s, with 24 articulated windows, an indoor/outdoor bar surrounded by plush barstools, and a showpiece booth with gleaming Douglas Fir panels.
Executive Chef Jocelyn Cano says the team’s goal is to change the breakfast scene with a menu that pays tribute to different cultures.
The large menu—both in terms of physical size and content—spans a worldly selection of carbs from Japanese pancakes to Georgian Khachapuri to plates that celebrate cheap and decadent ingredients alike.
McDiddles are made with pancakes, maple syrup and SPAM, while Ouefs on Toast is presented as a standard-issue slice of grilled country bread topped with soft scrambled eggs and a heaping tablespoon of surgeon caviar.
Indecisive sweet lovers (or those who just want it all) should consider the Cinnamon Waffle French Toast topped with crunchy brown butter crumble, sweetened cream cheese and an orange-kissed wild blueberry compote that brightens up each bite.
“I love waffles and french toast, so when it came to coming up with our french toast, I figured why not have both?” says Jocelyn.
Waffles are made during the prep shift and dried overnight. The next day, they’re dunked into a custard batter and griddled to order.
There’s a generous amount of whipped egg white folded into the batter of the Japanese-style Soufflé pancakes, which makes the jiggly ‘cakes, served with the standard accoutrements, more filling than they initially appear. Order a plate for the table so everyone can have a taste.
On the savory side of things, Morning Glory’s version of khachapuri, a traditional Georgian dish rarely seen on brunch menus, is made with mozzarella, feta, garlic, butter and a sunny-side-up egg.
Tear the ends off and dunk them into the golden yolk.
For those debating between sweet and savory, “side pieces” like thick sliced bacon and crispy scalloped potatoes—essentially the tater tots of your wildest dreams—are the perfect solution.
The cocktail list also merits consideration with drinks organized by flavor profile and style, including classic brunch cocktails, buzzy coffee beverages, and “decadent, but not dessertish” options like Thai Iced Tea—a boozy bubble-tea inspired drink with light rum, Ceylon tea cordial, coconut milk and boba.
